Walking Bass Line

Post by elise »

Fly Me to the Moon is one of many many songs that uses the walking bass line. You can especially hear it in the instrumental, around the 1:20 mark. The double bass is quite prominent throughout the entire piece - this is what your left hand is emulating in Dudes.

The bass line is very easy to hear throughout when listening to the karaoke track:

Go through bars 5-12 with both hands - get it flowing as smoothly and comfortably as possible.
You can break it down a bit by playing just your right hand, and using your left hand to tap the 1 2 3 4 beat throughout - if you can't TAP your left hand, you won't be able to PLAY your left hand, so it'll be good to keep the beat while you're focusing on your right hand.

Go through the bass line of bars 13-18, again getting it flowing as smoothly as possible.

19-24 is then a repeat of the beginning section, leaving the final two bars, as well as the chords from the middle section and then we're done!

What images does this piece provoke when you're listening to the recording? What about when you're playing?
